Youth Group Nights
Our Youth Group meets once a week (currently Thursdays) to hang out and discuss God's relevance in our daily lives. The youth room opens up at 6:30 pm. for "hang out" time, including pool, and Wii games like Rock Band. At 7:30 pm. we settle in for a 10 minute talk with a story and relevant Bible passage and then talk about how it applies to our own experience, finishing up at about 8:30 pm.
Youth Social Events
Along with our weekly youth group time, there are also pure social gatherings about every two weeks because, let's face it, there's basically nothing to do in Orillia. These nights can range from Pizza and movie parties, to crazy games, to all night events running around the church in the dark... always a blast!
Youth Retreats
Every so often it's important to get away from it all. Youth retreats are major events, usually taking up a whole weekend and include music, fun and games, several Bible study sessions and a lot of personal and group growth time. These retreats can be the high point of a ministry year.
Youth Sponsors
Youth Sponsors are adult volunteers who help with St. James' youth ministry, and work with our youth, building relationships with them. This can mean anything from helping set up chairs and sound systems, to hanging out and playing games, to sitting down 1 on 1 with youth and discussing what's going on in their lives in a mentoring setting. Youth sponsors go through a mandated screening process including a police check, interview, and training seminars.
Youth Drama Team
The Drama team meets once a week and works on developing everything from skits to full productions for public performance. For teens interested in acting or writing, it's a fun place to hone their chops and dig into some real issues.
Youth Band
Getting together on Wednesday afternoons, it's either a jam session or working together to develop a concert.
Thanks for taking the time to check out the growing ministry to youth and young adults
at St. James. As the parish has worked on shifting its mission mindset, St. James'
has made it a priority to reach out to the teens and twenty-
