PROPERTY & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MINISTRY

The Property and Resource Management area is comprised of those groups responsible for our parish management and property care, and includes elected officers and committees, paid staff and appointed committees and positions.

Property & Resource Ministry Goals:

Finance & Stewardship Committee

The Finance & Stewardship Committee is responsible for providing advice and assistance in financial matters to the Ministry Council, by initiating and reviewing the annual budget preparation, quarterly and annual financial statements, and a long-range financial plan.  It also administers, invests and disburses bequests and In Memoriam funds on behalf of the parish. The committee addresses our stewardship needs at St. James', focusing not just on the financial aspects of stewardship, but also on the many ways we give of ourselves, our time and talent.

This committee consists of the Incumbent, Churchwardens, Treasurer, and six appointed individuals.

Property & Maintenance

A Property Manager is appointed annually by Vestry.  This individual is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the church property and buildings, and the rectory.   St James’ is very proud of its historic old church and our charming grounds, and, typical of an old facility, there are always any number of projects, big and small to be done. If you enjoy this type of work, please inquire through the church office.

Health & Safety Committee

This area is responsible for matters dealing with the health and safety of our staff, congregation and premises.  A warden and staff representative are our health and safety representatives.

Lay Delegates to Synod

The Diocesan Synod is the governing body of the Diocese and is made up of all licensed clergy in the diocese, and lay members  (non-clergy) appointed by each parish.  St. James' elects three delegates and an alternate each year, to attend the Diocesan Synod meetings.  If you are interested in the policies and governance of the greater Anglican community, you will enjoy being a Delegate to Synod.

Screening Committee

'The Responsible Ministry - Screening in Faith' initiative helps parishes ensure our places of ministry are safe and healthy, especially for vulnerable children and adults who come to us in trust.  Our screening committee ensures that police checks are performed for all staff and volunteers in key positions, and also runs a Sexual Misconduct seminar on a regular basis.

Nominations Committee

Elected by Vestry, this group helps to identify and obtain candidates for committees and officers for the upcoming fiscal year.  The committee consists of the Incumbent, the Churchwardens, and two individuals appointed by Vestry.

Auditors

Two individuals are elected by Vestry annually to review the financial operations of the Parish and report to Vestry at our Annual Meeting when the financial statements are presented.

Cemetery Board

The St. Andrew's - St. James' Cemetery in Orillia was established jointly by the congregations of the two churches in 1873.  A Board consisting of four members of St. James', along with four members of St. Andrews', is responsible for managing the Cemetery.  Our four members are appointed annually at Vestry, each for a four year term.

Church Office

The church office is information central for church activities. The office is responsible for church bulletins, bookkeeping, archives, facility rentals, ordering supplies and telephone inquiries etc.
